Overview

Energy XXI is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company whose growth strategy emphasizes acquisitions, enhanced by its value-added organic drilling program.  The company's properties are located in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico waters and the Gulf Coast onshore.  We are currently looking to fill the position of a Reserves Technician, Corporate Reserves in Houston, Texas.

 

Summary:

The Corporate Reserves and Analytics Technician is a key member of a team that coordinates the year-end reserves process and quarterly updates, utilizes Spotfire analytics software for data analysis, ensures reserves compliance with all regulations, interfaces with exploitation teams and third party reserve auditors, monitors and analyzes reserve changes, tracks economic inputs, and prepares reconciliations and reports for senior management, exploitation, accounting, regulators, financial auditors, investors, and lending institutions.  This person will report to the Director of Reserves.

Responsibilities

  • Revise and maintain EXXI’s SEC Reserves (Aries) database, as needed
  • Revise and maintain EXXI’s Spotfire software, as needed
    • Maintain Spotfire
    • Train staff of Corporate Reserves and other departments on the use of Spotfire
    • Build Spotfire queries for LOE analysis, reserves analysis, A&D analysis, and Planning analysis
  • Coordinate fiscal year-end reserves process and quarterly updates with exploitation teams (reservoir engineering technicians, production engineering technicians) and functional departments (accounting, marketing, operations, land, etc.)
  • Coordinate data transfer (Aries database, LOS analysis, etc.) and (Proved, Probable, and Possible) reserve evaluation comparisons with 3rd party reserve auditors (NSAI) for annual audit
  • Track well activities (drilling, workover, etc.), status changes (return to production, shut-in, abandonment, etc.), and A&D activities, confirm appropriate changes made to reserves database, and reconcile reserves impact of associated revisions, additions, develops, acquisitions, and divestitures
  • Track economic inputs for cash flow modeling:
    • Working and net revenue interests – changes to well master per land
    • Product reference prices and differentials, energy content – marketing
    • Shrink, NGL yields – accounting
    • LOE – accounting
    • Taxes (severance, ad valorem) – accounting
    • Capex – maintain drilling and recompletion costs
    • Asset retirement obligation (ARO) – maintain abandonment costs
  • Prepare reconciliations and reports for senior management, accounting, regulators (SEC, EIA), financial auditors, investors, and lending institutions
  • Provide supporting data for related SEC filings
  • Prepare annual RIGS (Reserves Information Gathering System) filing for EIA
  • Prepare updates (including graphics and charts), as needed, for Board of Directors and Investor Relations presentations
  • Work with Corporate Reserves Director to identify, evaluate, and implement reserves process and database improvements on continual basis
  • Train and update technical staff on Aries reserves database standards and best practices
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and Aries database technical support to the exploitation teams
  • Test updates to Aries software before implementation
  • Provide support for special projects, as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience, primarily focused in reserves
  • Aries economics and reserves software proficiency required
  • Spotfire software proficiency required
  • MS-Access database experience required
  • SQL-database experience required
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required
  • Gulf of Mexico experience preferred
