    Energy XXI is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company whose growth strategy emphasizes acquisitions, enhanced by its value-added organic drilling program.  The company's properties are located in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico waters and the Gulf Coast onshore.


    • Right hand of the Financial Controller on all things financial accounting
    • Own the monthly financial close process and work directly with operational accounting groups and across the Company’s departments (e.g., Property Administration, Legal, Treasury, Planning, Investor Relations, etc.) to ensure that financial close is on time and accurate
    • Maintain and improve processes to ensure timely and accurate internal and external reporting, including the performance of various key SOX controls
    • Supervise a staff of three in the day-to-day activities of financial accounting
    • Work with Director of External Reporting to ensure all financial information included in our SEC filings are accurate
    • Primary contact of the organization with the external auditors (a Big 4 firm)
    • Ensure that the work of the external auditors is conducted in a timely and efficient manner for the organization
    • Identify roadblocks and proactively address issues
    • Review and improve processes around oil and gas accounting (DD&A, ceiling test and unevaluated properties), stock-based compensation, ARO, consolidation and other financial accounts
    • Oversee financial account reconciliation process and verify that all financial accounting reconciliations are timely and accurate
    • Work with outsourced tax compliance group to ensure that tax preparers have all information needed for the returns, and review to ensure that all filings (federal income, state income and state franchise) are accurate and timely
    • Work with outsourced tax provision group to ensure that the tax provision group has all information needed, and review to ensure that all provisions and related disclosures are accurate.
    • Other duties and special projects as assigned



    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Business Administration/Accounting
    • Minimum ten years accounting experience
    • Experience in year-end and quarterly reporting at a public company
    • Experience in being audited by a Big 4 accounting firm
    • SOX compliance experience
    • Compliance with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics
    • Ability to pay attention to detail and maintain accuracy
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to supervise and work with a high caliber and experienced team
    • Ability to be nimble in a fast-paced environment
    • Time management skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in Excalibur (including Finsubs/Essbase), DocVue, AFE Navigator, Assent and Mobius applications
    • Experience in consolidating financial results of multiple companies
    • Experience within a GL application to review/transfer/post journal entries
    • Eight years of experience in accounting with exploration and production companies
    • Experience in accounting under Full Cost at an exploration and production company
    • Technical accounting experience and proficiency in writing memos to document company conclusions on technical accounting matters.
    • Tax compliance and tax provision experience
    • SEC reporting experience
    • CPA
